Former KMEX Channel 34 news correspondent Maria Salazar will co-anchor “Noticiero Telemundo--CNN,” a new national and international Spanish-language news program premiering Monday on Cable News Network. Salazar will fly to Moscow during the first week of the new program to cover the Reagan-Gorbachev summit meeting. She will be joined by Jorge Gestoso, who currently works as a co-anchor for a Florida-based Telemundo news program, as co-anchor from CNN’s Atlanta headquarters. The Latino community was angered by the announcement earlier this year that CNN would take over Telemundo’s news production from the Miami-based Hispanic-American Broadcasting Co., but the bad feelings seem to have subsided. Said Salazar, “These programs will be produced by Hispanics for Hispanics. . . . This is not a translation of CNN.” The program will be broadcast Monday through Friday at 6:30 p.m. PDT.

“Noticiero Telemundo--CNN” will not air locally on Cable News Network, as reported in Thursday’s Morning Report. The new CNN-produced Spanish-language news program will be shown on KVEA Channel 52 weekdays at 6:30 p.m. The program is airing domestically at five Telemundo owned-and-operated stations and 10 affiliates, reaching 60% of Latino households in five of the top seven Latino markets.
