Incumbents Lead Funds Derby

Share

The two races for the Board of Supervisors continued to be overwhelmingly dominated by the incumbent candidates, according to the campaign finance statements that were filed Friday.

The incumbents, Gaddi H. Vasquez and Roger R. Stanton, both filed their reports a day late. So far, Vasquez reported that he has raised a total of $404,000, while Stanton has collected about $350,000.

Their totals for the period ending May 21 far exceed those of their challengers.

Vasquez’s only opponent is rancher Sam Porter, who has a campaign war chest of $16,861, all but $320 of which he has loaned to himself. Stanton’s sole challenger is Santa Ana City Councilman Ron May, who reported raising a total of $35,217 to date.

Since their last reports in March, Vasquez has added just $10,000 to his campaign. Stanton reported raising about $24,000 during the same period. But Stanton’s campaign treasurer, David Prebish, said the supervisor also raised an additional $25,000 at a fund-raiser Wednesday night.
