A man accused of killing his wife and four other family members told a Superior Court jury Tuesday that he was acting under orders from God.

“I thought that God had set up this situation, and it was His will that I kill these people,” Toufic (Tom) Naddi said in explaining why he killed his wife, her parents, her cousin and her brother-in-law three years ago today.

Naddi, 47, of El Cajon, detailed in a somber voice how he shot the five people in his home at 667 Carlow Way.

As he walked about the house shooting his victims, Naddi claimed, he heard no gunfire from his rifle and he did not have a silencer on the weapon.

“God made the silencer I had,” testified Naddi.

“So the only explanation you have (about not hearing gunshots) is that it was God’s plan?” asked his attorney, Robert Bourne.

“Yes,” replied Naddi.

Naddi held back tears when he discussed his family life and his claim that his wife and her father had sexual relations. He said his father-in-law deserved punishment.

Naddi has pleaded innocent by reason of insanity. He is to be cross-examined today.
