Inmate Takes Hostage, Wins Transfer Promise

TRENTON, N.J. —
A Cuban inmate with a homemade knife took a doctor hostage for six hours Tuesday at Trenton State Prison, 15 months after a similar incident in which he held five people at knifepoint, authorities said.
Bengro Galvan, 30, surrendered after extracting a promise that he would be transferred to Rahway State Prison, another maximum-security facility, authorities said. No one was injured.
