Local News in Brief : Laguna Beach : Supervisors Sued Over Pact With Irvine Co.
Orange County supervisors were named as defendants in a lawsuit that seeks to have a judge set aside their recent agreement with the Irvine Co. for development of the Laguna Laurel subdivision.
The agreement, according to the suit filed in Orange County Superior Court, illegally immunizes the 2,150-acre project from most future county ordinances for the next 20 years. The lawsuit was filed by Laguna Greenbelt Inc. and the Laguna Canyon Conservancy.
Defendants also include the Irvine Co., which has proposed construction of 3,204 residential units in south Orange County near Laguna Beach.
The plaintiffs claim that the agreement reached between the Board of Supervisors and the developer violates the equal protection clause of the state and federal constitutions and relies on inadequate environmental reports.
