Former Patrick Henry High School standout Eric Karros, who last month completed his junior season at UCLA, was drafted by the Dodgers Wednesday on the first day of the three-day major league baseball amateur draft.

Karros, 6-feet 4-inches, hit .415 with 17 home runs this season. He played mostly at first base but said the Dodgers project him as a third baseman.

A story in The Times on Thursday incorrectly stated that Tony Nobiensky of Grossmont College had been selected by the Philadelphia Phillies Wednesday in the free-agent baseball draft. The player picked by the Phillies was Tony Lozinski of Pacific, formerly of Valhalla High School.

The players not selected in the first round declined to release their round of selections. Teams released names only of first-round picks.

“I’ll have to sit down and see what kind of money they offer--that will determine how excited I will be,” said Karros, 20.

At least three other San Diego County athletes were drafted.

The Padres took Scott Welish, 18, of Mesa College. Welish, a 1987 graduate of Kearny High School, hit .340 with 3 home runs.

Cleveland selected Grossmont College outfielder Donnie Young, a graduate of Mt. Miguel. The sophomore had 131 hits in 80 games at Grossmont.

Philadelphia drafted Tony Nobiensky, a sophomore outfielder from Helix.
