Fishing Notes : License-Free Fishing Days Scheduled to Lure More Anglers to Ocean Sport

Share

In an effort to promote National Fishing Week, June 6-11, anglers will be offered license-free fishing days. The first free day is June 11. The second is Aug. 13.

The free fishing gives Californians of all ages the chance to try their skill without buying a license.

The state Department of Fish and Game reminds anglers that ocean sportfishing regulations must be observed.

Randy Long of Carson, fishing in his 18-foot boat at White’s Point using a blue and white feather, reeled in a sand bass with a Fish and Game tag attached to it.

The unusual part of Long’s 16-inch, 6-pound bass was a rainbow shrimp clinging to its head.

The tag has been turned in to the agency to determine the date it was tagged and the age of the fish for further study and development of the fishery.

Anglers who catch legal-size fish with a tag are urged to send or bring the tag to Fish and Game.
