Shed Light on Numbers for a House

Share

M. P. Powers of West Covina has been looking high and low for lighted house numbers for her residence (the illumination comes from behind the numbers). She’s seen these on various houses but is unable to purchase them at building stores or lumber yards. Can you help figure out how to light up Powers’ life, or should we just keep her in the dark over why somebody might be doing a number on her?

Muriel Arnold of Pasadena, who is allergic to microscopic dust mites, needs an all-plastic mattress cover that fits a queen-size bed ; neither linen supply houses nor hospital suppliers had an answer. Can you help with a problem that is nothing to sneeze at, or will Arnold have to stay low because she’s a mite too sensitive?

Ken Campbell of Harbor City would like to get his hands on a pamphlet that will show him how to tie neckties in various knots. Can you help before Campbell is all choked up over this, or might he just as well keep his shirt on as an alternative to being all tied up in knots?

Reader-to-Reader Help Line: Don at (213) 838-2382 is interested in getting his hands on some orange Western Section Los Angeles telephone directories from the 1950s. Please let your fingers do some walking and find out exactly where the orange--not the yellow--went. . . . Glenda at (805) 488-0340 needs some discontinued Holly Hobby Simplicity doll patterns from the ‘70s. We were told that the National Doll World magazine might have some information, but just in case, be a doll and see to it that Glenda’s life is simplified. . . . Ollie at (213) 567-2787 would like the D. Savino arrangement of the theme from Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor , an arrangement that evidently has been out of print for more than 50 years. If you could come up with this song of Norway, Ollie would be in--or at least look at--heaven for sure.

Note: The Reader-to-Reader Help Line is only for one-time items or for products no longer available in stores. And you must give us written permission to publish your telephone number, so that others may contact you directly.

Oline Schmiers of Glendale, who needed some 1-inch buttons for a camel’s hair coat, may be over the hump. Bertha Wittlif writes that B’s Country Store, 501 Chapala St., Santa Barbara, would be a good source. And Carole Bank of Los Angeles writes that she bought some of these buttons at the Home Silk Shop, 330 S. La Cienega Blvd., Los Angeles. We also heard from eight readers who have such buttons and are willing to part with them; by sending a stamped, self-addressed envelope you will have pushed the right button.
