Independent station KTLA Channel 5’s “Crimes of Violence,” a locally produced documentary that examined the circumstances and influences that prompted six violent criminals to go bad, beat all challengers--including the networks’ regular slate of prime-time fare--in the local ratings race Wednesday night. Hosted by Louis Gossett Jr. and produced by documentarian Arnold Shapiro, the program scored a 13.1 rating between 8 and 10 p.m. while ABC’s sitcoms posted a 12.9, CBS registered a 6.1 and first place NBC mustered only a 5.1 (where each rating point represents 46,527 local households).
