Share

The Private Industry Council of Santa Ana will launch its annual “Hire-a-Youth” program today with the first of six summer job fairs.

Today’s fair will be held from 9 a.m to 2 p.m. at the Employment Development Department building in Santa Ana.

At each of the fairs, 15 representatives from major retailers at South Coast Plaza and Santa Ana MainPlace will be on hand, as will representatives from food, hotel service and light manufacturing businesses. Altogether, more than 300 jobs will be offered this year, Private Industry Council official Loren Mowery said.

Students interested in attending the job fair should bring a birth certificate or Social Security card as well as a valid driver’s license. Also, they should come dressed as they would for an interview because employers will be hiring on the spot.

Each year, the Hire-a-Youth program places hundreds of Orange County teen-agers in private and public sector jobs.

Each fair is to be held at the employment department office, 1001 S. Grand Avenue, in Santa Ana. For more information and dates of future job fairs, call the “Hire-a-Youth” hot line at (714) 647-6545.
