Damage could reach $1 million from a fire that destroyed Ducey’s Bass Lake Lodge, a landmark in the Sierra foothill resort community, Madera County firefighters reported Friday.

A total of 100 firefighters helped battle the blaze that broke out just after 4 p.m. Thursday, and two sustained minor injuries.

The lodge was owned by Pines Resorts, whose executive vice president, Steve Welch, said the blaze began as a grease fire in the kitchen, then spread up the stove hood into the attic. The fire spread from the attic to the dining room, cocktail lounge, main lobby and banquet room.
