Nancy Lopez overcame her second straight opening-hole bogey to shoot a 2-under-par 70 and maintain a one-stroke lead over England’s Laura Davies after two rounds of the LPGA Jamie Farr tournament at Toledo, Ohio.

Lopez had a 6-under-par 138 on the 6,235-yard course at Glengarry Country Club.

Lopez hurried from the course after completing the round so she could drive to her home in suburban Detroit with her husband, Ray Knight, who plays for the Detroit Tigers. Knight was able to watch the first two rounds because the Tigers were off Thursday and played a night game Friday at Tiger Stadium, about an hour’s drive from Glengarry.

PGA Tour rookie Jim Hallet birdied four of the last five holes to move to a one-stroke lead over defending champion Tom Kite and Morris Hatalsky in the second round of the $800,000 Kemper Open at Potomac, Md.

Hallet, who has never won a PGA Tour event and has never before led a tournament after two rounds, fired a bogey-free, 6-under-par 65 in overcast and cool conditions at the Tournament Players Club at Avenel for a 36-hole total of 9-under par 133.

Kite shot a second straight 67 to tie for second with Hatalsky, who shot a 66.

Miller Barber, returning from minor foot surgery that kept him off the tour for a week, shot a 7-under-par 65 to grab a three-shot lead over Bob Charles and Don Massengale in the first round of the $250,000 Senior Players Reunion tournament at Dallas.
