Art Priorities

Share

Museums alone, no matter how wonderful, do not an art capital make. Los Angeles better get its priorities straight if it wants to be in serious contention as an art center.

That the Los Angeles County Museum of Art would feature the very ordinary Andrew Weyeth “Helga Pictures” and pass up the extraordinary Paul Gauguin retrospective (reviewed brilliantly by William Wilson, May 22) is not only a disservice to the L.A. public but to the credibility of the museum as well.
