Red Sox Send Anderson to Pawtucket

Brady Anderson, a highly touted rookie outfielder who attended Carlsbad High School, was sent on option to Pawtucket of the International League after failing in his first trial with the Boston Red Sox. Anderson hit .230 with no homers and 12 runs-batted in while playing 41 games with Boston. He led the team with 35 strikeouts.

Jerry Davis of Lincoln High School was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in last week’s major league baseball amateur draft. Davis hit .315 while playing shortstop this season but will probably move to the outfield.

Pitcher Mark Ringkamp, who played at Palomar College and Fallbrook High School, was selected by the Seattle Mariners.

GOLF

Lance Alworth, Dan Fouts and Charlie Joiner head a list of of former Chargers who will participate in the San Diego chapter’s seventh annual NFL Alumni charity tournament Monday at Carmel Mountain Ranch Golf Course.

The 18-hole tournament will benefit the Santee Exchange Group/Child Abuse Center.

A field of 36 fivesomes will compete for a trip to the Super Bowl of Golf March 18 at Industry Hills Golf Club in City of Industry.

Others competing include Hank Bauer, Don Horn, Dave Elmendorf and Hall of Famer Marion Motley.
