Thanks for the article, “Europe by Van” (May 8) by Tia Gindick, about RV travel in Europe. Since 1970 we have spent 18 months and 60,000 miles RVing through 29 European countries, and we completely agree that “Every day is gloriously distinct. . . .” It beats patronizing touristy hotels and restaurants with waiters and bellhops who are fed up with the world.

Our 350 nights in 275 campsites included all the places mentioned in the article, and we find Gindick’s descriptions generally true. We disagree on some details, however. We found prices from $2 to $10 each night. The campsite at the Viale Michelangelo was very filthy (twice!) and the one in Fiesole, overlooking the towers and domes of Florence, was exceptional (twice!).

We are leaving soon for another six to eight months of RVing through Europe and again expect to buy an RV from the PX parking lot on a U.S. Army base. That’s worked great for us each time.
