Santa Clara County Supervisor Tom Legan, acquitted on charges that he molested his daughter, conducted a one-day campaign for reelection by comparing himself to “Rocky” and predicting a victory. Legan, surrounded by several aides at his office, said he had collected $40,000 in campaign pledges over the weekend from supporters. “Now that I’ve proven my innocence in court, I think the voters are going to go to the polls and reaffirm their belief in our system,” Legan said. “The whole scenario has put me--when I should have been the overwhelming favorite--in the underdog position, kind of like Rocky off the mat,” he said. After six days of deliberation, a jury found Legan not guilty on charges he molested his daughter when she was 12 years old. Despite the unanimous verdict, most jurors said they believed Legan molested her, but that prosecutors could not prove it happened on the alleged dates in 1982.
