Local News in Brief : Countywide : Hearing Today on Route of Proposed Toll Road

Share

A public hearing on the route of the Eastern Transportation Corridor, one of three toll roads proposed in the county, will be held today before the Board of Supervisors.

The toll road’s proposed path is roughly an inverted ‘Y’ running from the Riverside Freeway through the Anaheim Hills, bifurcating into one leg that would end at the Santa Ana Freeway near the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station and another that would pass beneath the interstate near Myford Road.

Supervisors will vote on the exact alignment of the toll road. Some homeowners in the area want the route merged with a planned extension of Jamboree Boulevard so there would be one road through Peters Canyon.

The Orange County Planning Commission, which held two earlier public hearings on the proposed alignment, voted 3 to 2 on May 24 to recommend to the board that the Jamboree extension and the toll road be kept separate.

Some homeowners along the proposed toll route also have complained that it would create too much noise, particularly in the unincorporated Cowan Heights and Lemon Heights areas.

But the alignment won’t actually be completed until Thursday. The Transportation Corridor Agencies, the public body that oversees the toll roads, will hold a public hearing to decide whether to accept the board’s recommended route.
