Reserve forward Chris Washburn of the Atlanta Hawks was arrested on suspicion of carrying a gun and a billy club, according to Oakland police.

Washburn, 22, the Golden State Warriors’ first-round draft pick in 1986, was released on his own recognizance after spending the night in jail.

The 6-foot 11-inch Washburn, who lived in Oakland until the Warriors traded him to Atlanta last December, was arrested Sunday night after neighbors reported that shots had been fired.

Officers searched Washburn and found a .38-caliber revolver. The gun was loaded with three rounds but had not been recently fired. Officers found a billy club inside Washburn’s car.

A passenger in Washburn’s car, Derrick Lamar Turner, was arrested for investigation of possession a dangerous weapon, a felony. A similar charge against Washburn was dropped, but he faces a court date Friday for the remaining charges.
