Rancho Santiago Pitcher Turns Pro
Tim MacNeil, a pitcher from Rancho Santiago College, has signed with the Texas Rangers, the American League club announced Tuesday.
MacNeil, an 11th-round pick, worked mostly as a reliever for Rancho Santiago this season and finished with a 5-2 record with 2 saves in 14 games. He was 2-0 in 17 games last season as a freshman.
MacNeil, a 6-foot 4-inch right-hander, will report to the Rangers’ rookie team at Port Charlotte, Fla., of the Golf Coast League.
MacNeil had signed a national letter of intent to attend the University of Miami next fall but opted for a pro career.
MacNeil was a late-round pick of the Houston Astros after his senior season at Esperanza High School in 1986 but elected to attend Rancho Santiago instead.
