Assistant coach Don Chaney of the Atlanta Hawks has talked to the Houston Rockets about becoming head coach of the National Basketball Assn. team, Rocket General Manager Ray Patterson confirmed. Chaney coached the Los Angeles Clippers for two seasons before he was fired in the spring of 1987.

Patterson also said he is considering three other candidates: Utah assistant Jerry Sloan, Miami scout Dave Wohl and Denver assistant Allan Bristow.

“I would absolutely love to coach the Rockets,” Chaney told the Houston Post. “It’s an exciting possibility because I see so much potential there.”
