Lou Piniella, who relinquished his duties as general manager of the New York Yankees nearly two weeks ago, was named vice president of talent evaluation for the club.

Bob Quinn, the Yankees’ former vice president of baseball administration who had replaced Piniella, was promoted to vice president and general manager.

The Yankees said Piniella will have his new role structured as he sees fit. When he resigned May 28, Piniella was asked to remain with the Yankees in an advisory capacity. He will have primary responsibility for the recommendation of all trades and for assessment of major league talent.
