Joe Hillman, two-sport starter at Indiana University, signed a contract with the Oakland Athletics, who selected him in the 25th round of last week’s amateur draft.

Hillman, who attended Glendale Hoover High School, batted .336, with 4 home runs and 33 runs batted in, for the Hoosiers this season after joining the team late because he is a guard on the Indiana basketball team.

The 6-foot 3-inch outfielder will play for the A’s rookie league team at Medford, Ore., this summer, then report back to Indiana in the fall and play his senior season of basketball.
