Local News in Brief : Police Copter Requested
A $1.5-million surveillance helicopter for a special police gang unit was requested Thursday by Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley in a letter to the City Council.
Bradley said the Los Angeles Police Department “is in urgent need” of the aircraft to help its Gang-Related Active Trafficker Suppression unit track drug dealers on the ground.
Details of the special equipment that would be installed in the helicopter were sketchy, but a Bradley aide said it would involve advanced radio and surveillance devices.
