Larry Brown Says Spurs Haven’t Signed Him
Kansas basketball Coach Larry Brown Thursday denied a report by the San Antonio Light that he had been hired to coach the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Assn.
The job became vacant Tuesday when Spur owner B.J. McCombs fired second-year coach Bob Weiss. The newspaper quoted a source close to Brown as saying he was “100% sure” that Brown had agreed to take the job.
Brown, who seemed on the verge of taking the UCLA job after leading the Jayhawks to the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. title last season, said: “I think your sources are wrong. I haven’t signed anything or seen anything.”
The newspaper’s source said: “This deal is done, unless Brown changes his mind, which he has been known to do.”
