Coverage Unfair in Aliens Series

Share

I am surprised and shocked by your less-than-fair reporting of the illegal alien problem in North County. It is an inflammatory example of yellow journalism.

It misuses and distorts figures. It is no surprise that 15% of the jail populations are composed of illegal aliens. The decision over whether to grant release on one’s own recognizance or to make one post bail is a decision the jail makes at the time of arrest (for misdemeanors) based upon ties to the community and chance of flight. Even if booked and bail is set, the illegals cannot post bail or even pay a bail bondsman.

The Carlsbad Police Department’s figure is an even more unfair one--29% of crime is commited by “Hispanics.” Are all Hispanics illegal aliens? Most Hispanics are citizens who have been here for generations and speak no English. They include the cholo street gangs, those most beloved American-born, true-blue Americans--our own children whether we like it our not. Combining all illegals as “Hispanics” is offensive and disserving to everyone, especially it is offensive to any quest for the truth.

Aren’t you aware that a special study in North County has concluded that there is no crime wave associated with the illegal alien problem? Why wasn’t this reported? Why didn’t you contact the office of Congressman Ron Packard in regard to contacting others involved in finding a responsible solution to this problem?

I am sorry that your article has only contributed to misunderstanding and confusion, and fueled the already raging fires of ethnic hatred.
