A deliberately set fire in the Fish Canyon area above Duarte was contained Saturday after charring 120 acres of brush, authorities said. Two firefighters were injured battling the blaze, which was started by boys playing with a lighter shortly before 7:30 p.m. Friday, officials said.

By 11 a.m. Saturday, firefighters had the brush fire fully contained, with several crews preparing to stay until nightfall to mop up any “hot spots” that may erupt, county Fire Inspector Terry Dillman said.

“It’s winding down to nothing,” Dillman said.

Four youths seen in the area shortly before the fire erupted were booked on suspicion of arson at the Temple City sheriff’s station, according to Deputy Detta Roberts.

“They were starting small fires with a cigarette lighter, then stamping them out just for something to do,” Roberts said.
