Local News in Brief : Reseda Man, 28, Shot to Death in Encino

A 28-year-old man was shot to death by the boyfriend of his estranged wife after he broke into her Encino apartment, police said.

Hector Raymond Barba of Reseda was pronounced dead at the apartment in the 5400 block of Yarmouth Avenue following the incident at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Detective Larry Dolley said.

Barba, who had been separated from his wife, Tina Barba, was shot several times by her boyfriend, Michael Schwenke, 32, Dolley said. No one else was injured.

Dolley said the shooting was apparently in self-defense. He said Barba, who had been harassing his wife, showed up at her apartment and kicked a hole in the door.

Barba then crawled through the hole and charged at his wife and Schwenke, who was armed with a handgun, and threatened to kill them, Dolley said. Schwenke fired several shots at Barba, killing him, Dolley said.

Schwenke was not arrested in the incident, Dolley said.
