*** “Rich and Strange”
Hollywood Select. $14.99. 1932.
Though not as entertaining as “The 39 Steps” and other top-drawer early Hitchcock--and not one of his trademark mysteries--this stylish, risque and sporadically funny satire about an English man and woman who re-examine their marriage during a world cruise is full of quirky twists. Arguably the most accomplished film the director made between his silents and 1934’s “The Man Who Knew Too Much” (some would prefer the creakier “Murder” and “Blackmail”), it’s one fans shouldn’t miss.
