Easy Win Ends Long Losing Streak for Masterful Advocate
Masterful Advocate, winless in his previous 10 starts spanning more than 15 months, took the lead around the far turn and drew off for a six-length victory in Thursday’s $55,000 feature race before a crowd of 20,674 at Hollywood Park.
Ridden by Aaron Gryder, favored Masterful Advocate covered the 1 1/16 miles in 1:41 3/5 and paid $6.60, $3.40 and $2.60. Masterful Advocate’s last victory was in the San Rafael Stakes at Santa Anita on March 7, 1987.
Stylish Winner, 117, ridden by Gary Stevens, finished second and paid $3.60 and $2.60. Red Attack, 115, with Chris McCarron up, was a head back and paid $2.80 to show.
