Vincent’s Virtues

Share

Regarding Sue Martin’s article about the virtues of Vincent, the Beast half of “Beauty and the Beast” (“Tunneling His Way to Her Heart”, June 12): Her comments concerning Vincent’s ability to capture the hearts of women provided an interesting study into the man/beast character.

But Martin overlooked key traits that make Vincent’s character and the show a provocative one for viewers.

“Beauty and the Beast” may be based on a fairy tale, but Vincent’s depth of understanding and insights into relationships and human nature belie his beastlike appearance, and his noble wisdom makes him seem more human than those he comes in contact with.

I applaud all those affiliated with this show for their willingness to present intelligent themes that explore human and social values in a unique way. It may be ironic, but perhaps there is more reality expressed in this fantasy world than first meets the eye.
