Herb Brooks, fired as Minnesota North Stars...

Herb Brooks, fired as Minnesota North Stars coach last week, has met with newly appointed General Manager Jack Ferreira to discuss regaining his job.

Brooks and the rest of the coaching staff was released by North Star co-owners George and Gordon Gund. Ferreira said he has not been told not to rehire Brooks but said: “Obviously, there is friction between the two (Gordon Gund and Brooks). But it has not been specifically spelled out.”

If Brooks is not the coach next year, the club will pay him about $165,000 for the final year on his contract.
