Race car driver Bobby Allison was “semi-conscious and responding to verbal commands” after suffering a bruised heart and other injuries in a crash Sunday in the Miller High Life 500 at Long Pond, Pa.
NASCAR spokesman Andy Hall said the 50-year-old driver from Hueytown, Ala., remains in critical but stable condition at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, Pa. Allison was unconscious for several hours after Sunday’s crash. Hall said he did not know when Allison regained consciousness.
“The latest information I have is that he’s critical but stable,” the spokesman said.
Allison was admitted to the trauma center with a bruised heart, possible fractured ribs and a broken bone in his left leg.
