Local News in Brief : Curfew Law Altered
A curfew law for minors was altered by the Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday to allow police officers to continue to stop suspicious youngsters on the city’s streets.
Los Angeles police had stopped enforcing the 10 p.m. curfew last week after a similar Long Beach law was ruled unconstitutional by the state Court of Appeal. Under the revised law, minors are permitted to be out after 10 p.m. in certain situations, such as running errands for their parents or returning from a movie or dance.
Police officials said the curfew is an effective tool in their efforts to curb gang violence in South-Central Los Angeles.
