“8 1/2.” MPI. 1963. Federico Fellini’s surreally autobiographical film masterpiece, starring Marcello Mastroianni, is a film-buff must both on its own merit and for its influence on Woody Allen’s “Stardust Memories” and Bob Fosse’s “All That Jazz.”

“Full Metal Jacket.” Warner. $89.95. 1987. R. Stanley Kubrick’s Vietnam drama, his first film since 1980’s “The Shining,” follows Marines from boot camp to battle.
