Criticism of the RTD
As a New Yorker visiting Los Angeles, I was dead set against the idea of using a car. I therefore resolved, against all my L.A. friends’ advice, to use mass transit.
Since no one I knew used mass transit, I called the RTD. The number was busy for 30 minutes. Finally, I called the administrative department, which gave me another number. This was a recording, but after 15 minutes, I got through to a representative of RTD. Courteous and efficient, she asked me where I was and to what street I was going. Her information enabled me to go from Beverly Hills to Long Beach in about 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Unfortunately, my return trip was a nightmare. I had to go to a different part of Los Angeles, and all the information numbers I tried were busy. When I finally got to downtown Los Angeles, the bus driver gave me incorrect instructions concerning the bus I should take next. After wandering around in frustration looking for a nonexistent bus stop, I ended up taking a taxi.
Increased money and manpower should be invested so that one can easily get through to the RTD information staff.
