L.A. Armenians at Rally Back Annexation Move
Four thousand American-Armenians rallying Sunday in Los Angeles called on Soviet officials to quell civil unrest and allow Soviet Armenia to annex a disputed region.
The protesters advocate the annexation of the mountainous region of Nagorno-Karabakh, a territory which is predominantly Armenian, but controlled by the Muslim-dominated Azerbeijan Republic.
The rally was timed to come before the Soviet Union’s nationwide Communist Party conference.
