The Lakewood City Council, acting to “revitalize the city’s commercial base,” has set aside 15 sites for possible redevelopment projects.

Upon the advice of Charles K. Ebner, director of community development, the council this week unanimously voted to designate the sites, scattered throughout the city, as part of a “new redevelopment survey area.” The action is the first step in declaring property under redevelopment.

City spokesman Donald Waldie said that studies of the properties will be needed before they can be designated for redevelopment.

The sites, which range from the 15-acre former Chevron tank farm in west Lakewood to small street corner lots at Pioneer, Norwalk and Paramount boulevards near the Orange County border, could be used for new commercial projects.
