Suspect in County Robbery Spree Tackled and Captured in Anaheim
Anaheim police Wednesday arrested a man that they believe is responsible for more than 20 armed robberies in north Orange County during the past two weeks, authorities said.
Police from Anaheim, Huntington Beach, Garden Grove, Buena Park, Cypress, Fullerton and Orange set up surveillance at a number of small businesses in their cities Wednesday to try to catch the bandit. The robber has been on a spree in those cities since mid-June, sometimes holding up four businesses in one day, Anaheim Police Sgt. John Haradon said.
In all of the robberies, the bandit covered his gun with a towel, Haradon said.
About 8:45 p.m., Anaheim Police Investigator Robert Brown spotted a man holding up employees at the Patrini Shoe Store in the 600 block of North Euclid Avenue. When the man left the store, Brown tackled him and placed him under arrest, Haradon said.
The suspect, who told police his name is David Michael Schultz, is a 28-year-old transient, Haradon said. He was arrested on suspicion of armed robbery and was being held at the Anaheim jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Earlier Wednesday, a similar robbery occurred at a children’s clothing store in Orange, authorities said.
The gun used by the suspect in that holdup was thought to be a toy, Haradon said.
