The Burbank Airport administration held a 10th birthday celebration Wednesday.

About 300 people attended the celebration at the Burbank Airport Hilton on the anniversary of the date that the cities of Burbank, Glendale and Pasadena took control of the airport from Lockheed Corp. The airfield was built in 1931 by United Air Lines.

The three cities purchased the airport for $51 million and administer it through the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority. Each city appoints three representatives to the authority.

Since its birth, the airport administration has been enmeshed in political, court and regulatory challenges from homeowner groups angered by noise as air traffic has grown to 54,000 takeoffs and landings a year.
