In a move designed to stem a decline in attendance at theaters, French TV stations were limited to showing two films a week in prime time. On the occasion of France’s annual “Cinema Day,” French Culture Minister Jack Lang said that, in addition to the TV ban, he will institute a $12-million “emergency plan” to help promote French films and cinemas. The French networks, which are heavily regulated by government, currently are forbidden from showing movies in prime time only on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
