Protest Against Plant

Share

This letter is written to register disapproval of the building of the Recontek hazardous-waste recycling plant in Oceanside, particularly at the site near Benet and Carpenter roads in the Roymar Industrial Park.

Despite the reassurance from Recontek that the plant is environmentally safe, it is feared that poisons may be released into the atmosphere, such as benzene, arsenic and cyanide. The ocean breezes may carry these poisons directly over us, harming the health of our children and ourselves. Also, the Roymar Industrial Park area is near the San Luis Rey River, a flood plain region, making water pollution another possibility. Should a hazardous-waste accident occur, all of north San Diego County would be in danger.

Finally, we are concerned that the location of the Recontek plant in the Roymar Industrial Park will decrease the value of our home and property. As we have recently purchased a newly constructed home, we expect the value to increase, not decrease.

In conclusion, we strongly object to the building of the Recontek hazardous waste recycling plant in Oceanside or in any other populated area.
