A 26-year-old man, who had been nearly three years in a coma as the result of a stabbing, died early Saturday morning at Villa View Community Hospital, San Diego police said.

Javier Lopez, 26, of the 3600 block of Logan Avenue was found bleeding from stab wounds the night of Sept. 27, 1985, at the corner of 31st Street and National Avenue in Barrio Logan.

Witnesses told police that Lopez had been involved in a fight with two Latino men in their 20s. Lopez was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, where he lapsed into a coma.
