A Mass for former major league baseball player Ed Sauer, who died of a ruptured aneurysm last Friday in Thousand Oaks at age 69, will be held tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes, a church in Tujunga.
Sauer, the younger brother of slugger Hank Sauer of the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs, played for the Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, Pittsburgh Pirates and Boston Braves from 1940-50. Sauer played with the Los Angeles Angels of the Pacific Coast League from 1946-48.
Sauer is survived by sons Henry and Thomas Sauer, daughter Marlaine Dettloff and three grandchildren.
