The Chicago Sting, the oldest professional soccer franchise in the United States, today became the fourth Major Indoor Soccer League franchise to fold since season’s end.

The Tacoma Stars also announced the team was closing shop today, and franchises in Minnesota and St. Louis folded last month. MISL Commissioner Bill Kentling scheduled a late-afternoon conference call with the owners of the five remaining teams to discuss the league’s status. Lee Stern, Sting chairman and majority owner, announced his decision after negotiations with potential local and out-of-town investors failed. The Tacoma franchise folded after a drive resulted in the sale of only 500 season tickets.
