How charming that Calendar restaurant reviewers have come down from the mountain of celebrity-studded expense-account dining establishments to sample some hot barbecue (“Quest for Fire,” by Charles Perry, July 3).

But you really missed the boat on the accompanying article about which type of wine to drink with BBQ (“Fire Water: What to Drink With Barbecue,” by Dan Berger, July 3). Only the pretentious L.A. Times reviewers would make such an inappropriate recommendation.

The drink to have with BBQ, or, for that matter, any hot cuisine, is beer.
