World Boxing Council super-flyweight champion Gilbert Roman of Mexico got off the canvas after a fourth-round knockdown to stop Japanese challenger Yoshiyuki Uchida in the fifth round of their scheduled 12-round title fight at Tokyo.
Referee Richard Steele of Nevada stopped the fight with 39 seconds gone in the fifth after Uchida was floored twice with left hooks to the face.
Roman, 26, lifted his record to 49-4-1 with 35 knockouts. Uchida, 29, fell to 21-3-1 with 19 knockouts. Each weighed 114 pounds.
