A Thousand Oaks man was sentenced Thursday to two years in prison for driving while drunk and causing an accident that killed one passenger and injured three others.

Van Nuys Superior Court Commissioner Sherman Juster imposed the midterm sentence on Anthony Charles Fick, 28, for the May 17, 1987, crash that killed Paul Seay Jr., 24, of Malibu.

Seay was killed when the car Fick was driving crashed into a culvert on Kanan Road south of Triunfo Canyon Road in Agoura Hills.

Fick was traveling north at about 70 m.p.h. when he tried to pass another vehicle and lost control of the car. Fick and three other passengers suffered minor injuries in the early-morning accident.

Fick was charged with two counts each of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence, which carries a maximum prison sentence of about 10 years, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Eldon Pritikin.

In a plea bargain with prosecutors, Fick pleaded no contest Jan. 20 to one count of vehicular manslaughter, which carries a maximum sentence of four years, Pritikin said.

Fick’s attorney, Richard Hirsch, had asked that Fick be placed in an alcohol rehabilitation facility.
