Local News in Brief : Cypress : 3 Held in High School Gang-Related Stabbing

Three youths were in custody Friday on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the gang-related stabbing of a 17-year-old boy on the campus of Cypress High School, police said.

The victim, who was stabbed three times in the chest and stomach, was transported to Long Beach Community Hospital, but his condition was unknown, Cypress Police Lt. John Schaefer said. Police withheld the victim’s name out of fear of reprisal, Schaefer said.

The altercation occurred shortly after 9 a.m. Friday when the victim arrived at the school to drop off his brother, Schaefer said.

Words were exchanged between the victim, a member of the Los Coyotes gang from Buena Park, and the three suspects, who are members of the Compton gang, also from Buena Park, police said. A fight ensued, resulting in the stabbing. The suspects fled on foot but were apprehended on the campus grounds by police, Schaefer said.

The juveniles were being held at Orange County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of attempted murder. An 18-year-old suspect, identified as George Perales, was in custody at the Cypress Police Department, Schaefer said. Bail was set at $250,000, he said.
