Gravelly Meadows Wins Feature Race
Gravelly Meadows came from behind in the eighth race feature at Los Alamitos Wednesday night to pull out a three-quarter-length decision over Rajas Gold.
Jockey Bruce Pilkenton guided Gravelly Meadow around the turn, split horses in the early stretch and pulled away in the final 1/16 of the 870-yard race. It was the first victory this year and the first 870-yard win ever for the four-year-old gelding, which has lifetime earnings of $84,756.
Rajas Gold finished a neck in front of Nublados Casino. Ricks Reb, the 4-5 favorite, finished fourth in the field of seven $25,000 claimers.
Gravelly Meadow, trained by Charles Bloomquist, ran the race in 45.74 seconds and paid $12, $7.20 and $3. Rajas Gold returned $8.80 and $4.40 and Nublados Casino paid $2.80.
