Burbank Police Rescue 3 Men From Car Trunk

Burbank police rescued three men, believed to be illegal aliens smuggled from Mexico, locked in the trunk of a stolen car parked in the sun for several hours Friday.

The men, who were not identified, were taken to Burbank Community Hospital shortly after they were freed by police, Burbank Police Department Sgt. Rick Madrid said. They were treated for heat exposure and released.

Madrid said a pedestrian flagged down a patrol car after he heard someone yelling inside the trunk of the car parked at 140 E. Alameda Ave. near San Fernando Boulevard.

Officers forced open the trunk and found the men “alive, but just barely,” Sgt. Don Goldberg said. “It looks like a smuggling operation that went bad for some reason.” The car had been parked under the sun for about seven hours. “They could have died,” Goldberg said.

The car, a 1985 Buick convertible, had been reported stolen by the Orange County sheriff’s office.
